Healthcare people who got tired of watching it go wrong
BioSafe was started by healthcare people, not waste people. That difference shows up in everything below.
Who you're actually calling
Grant
Came up through healthcare administration, on the side of the desk where the invoices land. He's the reason our pricing is one number times one count, and the reason there's no fuel surcharge line on your bill.
Owen
Nobody sets out to start a medical waste company
We came at this from inside healthcare. We spent years around practices, clinics, and the people who keep them running, and the same complaint kept surfacing: the waste vendor. Never the big things, always the small ones that never got fixed.
A contract auto-renewed before anyone noticed. A fuel surcharge that appeared one quarter and never left. A pickup that didn't happen, then didn't happen again, and a phone number that routed to a call center three states away.
What made it worse was how solvable it looked. Regulated waste isn't complicated. Collect it correctly, transport it legally, document it properly, show up when you said you would. The industry had simply stopped trying.
So we built the version we'd have wanted as customers.
“Regulated waste shouldn't be a headache.”
Business philosophy, in plain terms
The agreement should fit on a page
If a contract needs a lawyer to interpret, it was written to protect the vendor. Ours is short, plainly worded, and you can leave whenever you want without a penalty clause waiting for you.
Price what people actually use
Per container, times the number of containers. No monthly overhead for a service you use twice a month, no fuel surcharge, no annual escalator buried in year three.
Answer the phone
Every customer gets a local number that a person picks up. Not a portal, not a ticket queue. If something goes sideways you should be able to say so out loud to someone who can fix it.
Earn it every pickup
The only thing keeping a customer should be that we do the job well. If we miss a pickup, we'll discount your next one, and if we keep missing, you should leave.
The only medical waste company based in North Carolina
That's not a marketing line, it's the operating model. Our trucks are here. Our crews live in the counties they serve. When you call, the person who answers can tell you where your driver is, because they know.
National providers aren't bad at this because they're bad companies. They're bad at it because a route in Kinston is a rounding error to them. It isn't a rounding error to us.
